The Nowruz Spread or Sofreh

Nowruz Customs – The Nowruz Spread or Sofreh

The Nowruz spread is to Nowruz, what a Christmas tree is to Christmas. Nowadays, the spread or sofreh is placed on a table. Traditionally, the sofreh was spread on the floor. There are other kinds of sofrehs such as sofreh aghd, or wedding spread (that are placed on the floor).

Renovations at Udvada

Dear all,

I have updated my website ‘udvadarenovations’ at  http://udvadarenovation.blogspot.com/

Please visit and place your comments there. May I earnestly urge you, this is our Vatican, the Iranshah stands at the summit of our Zoroastrian…nes, we can’t stand idle and do nothing about the “cheap” awful work done there. It reflects very badly on our community.

I wish this message came to you from a distinguished member of the community, but it does not make this matter different. Please see this issue on the merits of the case. I earnestly urge that each of us correspond with letter expressing our distress to the 1.)Trustees of N.M. Wadia Charities (123 MG Road, Fort, Mumbai ) and 2.)the Udvada Anjuman (Udvada Gaam, Dist Bulsar, Gujrat)

 Sincerely,

Geve Narielwalla

Introducing Zarathustra’s City of Light by Hossein Vahidi

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce Gallery Mamak which is up and running online to you. The present site is unique in that it is the first English site whose purpose is to introduce Iranian artists to the world. It is also unique in the ease with which it functions. Visitors can easily view pictures, read about specific artists and be familiarized with the Iranian art scene. The site will introduce one major Iranian artist every two weeks and interview various artists to allow them to introduce their thoughts, their world, their work and their perspectives on life. In order to promote further understanding of Iranian culture, past and present, Gallery Mamak will post translations of various Iranian novels, short stories and plays. Presently the Gallery is presenting Zarathustra’s City of Light a novel by Dr. Hossein Vahidi. This book offers a new interpretation of Zarathustra’s Gathas. You can find the book under resources where new chapters will be presented on a bi-weekly basis. Once you visit the site make sure you join our mailing list so that we can keep you updated on what is going on.
