Sooni Taraporevala’s voyage from “Parsis: The Zoroastrians of India” to “Little Zizou”
Please click the link below to read a Book Review of Sooni Taraporevala’ s book Parsis: The Zoroastrians of India by Cyrus Merchant. This book is full of traditional Zoroastrianism. The book was first published in 2000(out of print) and again in 2004.(1)
After 9 years, Sooni Taraporevala’ s in her latest interview in Outlook Magazine sings a Reformist tune.Shall not be suprised to read, if the 1 millon $ USD movie funds were provied by some reformist zoroastrian or a reformist organization !!! The best part of the interview is labelling traditional zoroastrians( “fundamentalist” ) with “Osama” and “Bush”.(2)
Sooni Taraporeval’ s cousin Behest Behreh Ervad Saheb Ratanshah Katila (A pucca Pav Mahal priest of the Sanjana Tola of Udvada,Boivala & protector of Shreeji Pak Iranshah AtashBheram Saheb, a student of Ustad Saheb Behramshah N Shroff) was called “othodox” in the 2000 book “Parsis….” and now in 2009 orthodox community members are called “fundamentalist” , “osama’ or “bush”.(3)
We the “Parsis:The Zoroastrians of India” survived because of “the obsession of the purity of race” of our Pilgrim Fathers who undertook “Such a Long Journey” (ie.from Madar Vatan Iran to Hindustan) .“Such a long(short) Journey” of 9 years from “Parsis: The Zoroastrians of India”(i.e. traditional) to “Little Zizou”(i.e. reform).Wishing you all the best and sucess in her first directorial movie “Little Zizou”, and please do not worry, as you are not the first person to take pot shots at the traditional community members. But please do worry about the reply you will have to give all the traditional community members whose photos you have taken in your book “Parsis: The Zoroastrians of India” when you meet them on “the other side“.
