Simorgh, Persian Mythical Bird

Tehran, April 17, 2009:

 One of the most famous mythical figures of Persian literature is a giant bird called Simorgh.

 Simorgh, which can be traced as far back as pre-Islamic Persia, probably belongs to the original mythology of Iran, Iran-daily reported.

Etymology

 The name “Simorgh” comes from the Pahlavi word Senmurv, which itself is derived from Avestan “Saeno meregho“which means “the bird Saena“.
