Sanjan Day Report

Industrialist Areez Khambhata’s remark about allowing inter-caste marriage in Parsi community sparked protest in Sanjan day function held at Sanjan today.

Khambhata talked about allowing inter-caste marriage in his speech at Sanjan day function today, which immediately sparked protest, and several Parsis rushed to the stage to stop him speaking anything further. One Parsi gentleman tried to snatch away Khambhata’s microphone. The function was disturbed for some time. Almost all Parsis present in the function showed disagreement with Khambhata’s remark.

  • The reported event was uglier than what is contented above. Mr. Khambattas remarks to blur the name of our most venerated Pak Iranshah was in extremely bad taste besides not being the right forum to express such views & disturbing an annual function where he was a guest. Mr. Khambatta may I request U personally & the WAPIZ group to please stop creating a split in our community & make genuine efforts towards creating peace. Uhsta to all.

  • It is shocking to say the least that Mr. Khambatta one of the forming members of WAPIZ – a traditionally bent organisation working towards the return of orthodoxy and order to a mis-guided and rudderless parsi-irani community has uttered such stuff. He was one of the proponents of forming such a body to oppose the World Body… and now this..

  • excellent overall function I must say. well organized and executed. But for this un warranted issue all 1200 plus pilgrims were so happy . Wish in future we only have happy issues and no such talks

  • A big thank you to the local organizers for such a wonderful function and some entertainment too. The food and service was good. In fact had it not been for the over zealous comments of one individual it was an almost flawless function.
hope Pak Iran Shah Saheb brings peace and one ness amongst our community

  • a good article. must confess as a first timer I was suitable impressed with the whole function. the seating was good, had a chance to visit the Agiary next door, some parsi style shopping too and excellent performance by school children. I was sceptical about the food and water, but was very happy with not just good food, but cold drinks, tea, lassi and falooda. really a worthy way to look after parsi pilgrims. The Jamva Chalo spirit lives and thrives. If just a few persons learn to “keep smiling” our community would really be respected by all. Overall full marks to all concerned. I will surely visit again with colony friends next year.

  • Congratulations to Mr. Areez Khambatta for speaking his mind. Unless the Zarathushtee community speaks out at the rot that has taken root in our community since over a 100 years, and efforts are made to remove this rot, and till the rot is removed, we will not come on the right track.

  • There seems to have been a misunderstanding between two people as it has not been accurately reported by the press. Areez Khambatta spoke in general about intermarried Parsis entering all our fire temples, even the Pak Iranshah Atashbehram brazenly without anybody’s knowledge. Vada Dasturji got upset that the remark was aimed at him since he is the High Priest at Udwada and that sparked the confusion. There was no ill feeling intended by Mr. Khambatta.

  • No Misunderstandings Behram respectfully I submit my views hereunder. . . . ..
Mr Khambatta with all due allowances to his age N position cannot be condoned 4 spoiling a function of another assos where he was invited as a chief guest. Besides his strong views N approach towards religion is very well known by those that R active in community matters. Its bad basically to use someones else’s platform to air such strong & controversial comments on the priestly class as well as our revered Pasha Saheb. All in all unpardonable. Besides there was never a moment thereafter too where he did show remorse and/or restraint; instead he carried on making unfavorable similar comments. Therefore the conclusion that this was preplanned & misfired but certainly not misunderstood.

  • What happened was not unexpected. A person should know when to talk what and one cannot expect that from this business tycoon. Its a foot in the mouth syndrome. He has done it before and will continue doing it.

  • Noshir H. Dadrawala

It is by vivacity and wit that a leader shines in public; but trite remarks and loud sweeping statements reduce him to a buffoon.

P.S: My remark / observation is made “in general” (Thanks Mr. Dhabar!!!) and in my personal capacity and not as a Trustee of BPP.

  • He is an unguided missile, speaks trash most of the time. He has no respect for the feelings of anyone else, & thinks he is the guardian angel of the community. We can do without the likes of him……

  • THE FUNCTION WAS CARRIED OUT QUITE NICELY, THERE WAS NO ISSUES AS TOLD BY THE PRESS, THE FACT IS THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE IN WHICH MR.KHAMBATTA INDIRECTLY IN A SARCASTIC MANNER TOLD THAT INTER CST MARRIAGE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED NOR SHOULD THEIR PARTNERS BE ALLOWED, THE FACT ALSO REMAINS THAT OUR SO CALLED HIGH PRIEST KHURSHED JI DASTOOR HAS JOINT HAND WITH CONVERTIST ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS WZO AND OTHER UNORTHODOX ANJUMANS SUCH AS DELHI, NO WORDS HIDDEN OR NO WORDS FEARED!
