TOI journalist bags award for irrigation scam expose

Mumbai: Nauzer Bharucha, senior editor at the Times of India, won the Red Ink Award for Excellence in Indian Journalism 2013 for political writing for his series of reports exposing irregularities to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore in state irrigation projects.

Bharucha shared the award with Samanth Subramaniam of The Caravan. The awards were distributed at NCPA, Nariman Point on Saturday. Bharucha’s parents collected the award on his behalf as he was out of town.

Union information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari, who was the guest of honour, said self-regulation is best for the media. He also said that a lot more requires to be done with a “collective application of mind of both of us—media and the politicians”. TNN
