Cherie Blair visits aapri Zenobia Davar
When my husband one afternoon informed me that Mrs. Cherie Blair wanted to visit me and see my collection, I thought that as usual he was pulling my leg, however, I was pleasantly surprised when he actually showed me the email confirming it. Since showing my collection to anyone takes about 2 hours, I wrote back confirming that I would be happy to have her as well as asked her over to have a typically Parsi meal with us after the same, and I was even more surprised when my invitation was accepted and on 15th July I hosted Cherie Blair along with her PA, CEO and other staff of her foundation.
She arrived at my place and I was awed by her simplicity as well as her sophistication. She saw my collection and her first observation was that the back looks as good as the front and that’s the real test of embroidery and found my work incredible. She gave me a personally signed biography book of hers and a London China momento plate, and I gave her an embroidered frame which I had quickly prepared for her.
They all subsequently had a quick lunch comprising of Mutton Dhansak with kababs, Patra ni Machi, Chicken Farchas, Vegetable Stew, and Lagan nu Custard as they had to leave for the airport to catch a flight.
They even took another frame to give it to the British Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi.
She subsequently wrote back from London that they all thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and even the meal they had here was the best they had while on their trip to India. She also wrote “your beautiful embroidery now has pride of place in my office back in London”
