Petition for the establishment of a Religious Arm of the UN
Join Us to Help United Nations “To Maintain International Peace and Security”
To Honorable Secretary General, United Nations:
It is our human right to live in a better and more peaceful world. This is the right of every Human Being and this is the goal of the UN. Many conflicts resulting in human tragedies are increasing daily, driven by clash of Faiths and one’s belief, manipulated by a few.
Times have changed since the UN was established. To keep the goal intact, the UN should respond accordingly.
A petition was initiated by Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America (FEZANA) and Sikh community leaders at the 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions October 15-19 supporting the formation of a belief-based arm of the UN to respond to the necessity of our times and to ensure that the right of every human being to a peaceful living is respected, preserved and protected.
Therefore We, the undersigned, respectfully request the UN to support this critical initiative of our time.
This is indeed a very laudable idea – “to ensure…the right of every human being to a peaceful living.”
However, I believe this effort will be more successful if it is integrated within an existing UN agency, The United Nations Economic and Social Council – UNESCO.
I suggest the effort be focused on incorporating the stated objectives into the UNESCO as it will be more successful there, than as a new venture in an organization of 193 nations, bogged down by super power politics and budget limitations.

The UN is a paper tiger without any teeth. Countries only follow Resolutions which suit their individual needs and political blocks or correctness. There are umpteen number of countries which todate have failed to honour their promises for plebiscite and have carried economic suppression and genocide of their minority communities. These countries believe that the might of the majority is their right. Majority of the resolutions are taken only on the considerations of the business interest of the USA and West.
Dear Piloo Mani:
While I agree with your premise that the UN is controlled by the Permanent Members of the Security Council who have both the Veto powers as well as the clout of larger share of financial support, this discussion is primarily about the “UN Religious Arm” petition. My suggestion is to use an existing mechanism, instead of attempting to create a new entity.
We have the excellent precedence of PARZOR , the result of the pioneering efforts of Dr. Shernaz Cama, her late father and others, who placed the microscopic Zoroastrian community on the world map with UNESCO’s Heritage Community recognition.
