Parsis in the Indian Air Force
Many Parsi community personnel joined the Indian Air Force in its early years, possibly the biggest community contributing to the IAF in the pre-independence era. Yet, we have very little information for many of them. It is impossible to create a comprehensive list of officers of the IAF who hailed from the community. Given the community’s unique names, I have created a list covering more than 90% (Version 2 is probably 99% complete). Yet, it is not free from errors of omission and commission.
Like all communities, there are many variations to ethnicity. Parsis from Iran are considered different from those who have been in India from long back and also some carry a different faith. I do not have the depth of knowledge and have ignored such nuances. Any inadvertent errors may please be forgiven.
The idea for the list came from Roxanne, daughter of the late Air Mshl Minoo Engineer, Padma Bhushan, PVSM, MVC, DFC.
This list intends to reach out to the officers, families, extended families, and next of kin to help us complete the profile
of the said officer in the form of pictures, postings, and other documents of historical relevance.
