The Bai Maneckbai Nusserwanji Chenoy Agiary is one of the oldest structures in Hyderabad. It was consecrated on 16th October, 1904 (Roj Ardibehest, Mah Ardibehest, 1274 YZ). The foundation stone of the Agiary was laid by Bai Putlibai Maneckshaw Chenoy in memory of Bai Maneckbai Nusserwanji Chenoy and Maneckshaw Sorabji Chenoy. It was awarded the HUDA Heritage Building award in 2001. The Agiary is presently undergoing major repairs/renovations.
The unique aspect about this Agiary is that, unlike others, it is patterned on the Greek architectural style. The facade flaunts gothic features and the deep, recessed verandah adds to the structure’s elegance. The front has wide, inviting stairs and an Afarganyu marking the top of the entrance.
The Fire Temple celebrates its 120th Salgirah today.
