AUSTRALIAN WORLD ORCHESTRA TO TOUR INDIA UNDER THE BATON OF MAESTRO ZUBIN MEHTA
The Australian World Orchestra (AWO) will tour India in October 2015 at the invitation, and under the baton, of internationally renowned Indian conductor, Maestro Zubin Mehta.
The tour has been made possible with the support of the Australian Government.
The AWO will perform two concerts in Mumbai on 25 and 26 October, one concert in Chennai on 28 October and one concert in New Delhi on 30 October.
The invitation to tour India with Maestro Mehta comes after the success of the 2013 Australian Concert Series, during which a strong bond was formed between the maestro and the orchestra.
Commenting on the tour, Maestro Mehta said: “Conducting the Australian World Orchestra in Sydney and Melbourne in 2013 was indeed a great artistic experience for me. It is, therefore, with the greatest joy that I have invited this orchestra, which I consider one of the world’s best, to my country in October 2015. I am very proud that this tour will be the beginning of official cultural exchanges between our two countries and am delighted by the support of the Australian Government.”
Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the AWO, Alexander Briger added:
“We were tremendously excited when Zubin agreed to conduct the AWO in 2013 and extremely flattered by the enthusiasm with which he engaged with the orchestra. For him to invite us to tour his Indian homeland, where he has toured with the world’s greatest orchestras, is a great honour and testament to the quality of Australian classical musicians both here at home and around the world.
In addition to the Australian Government, we have received great support for the tour from the Mehli Mehta Foundation in Mumbai and the business community in Chennai.”
The Australian World Orchestra will present 4 concerts in India:
