Khorana Program for Scholars
The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Government of India, and Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) have come together to support the prestigious Khorana Program for Scholars. This exceptional partnership is a first of its kind, and reflects a strong commitment by all partners to promote human resource capacity building through student exchanges. The program is named in honor of Dr. Har Gobind Khorana, who won the Noble Prize in 1968 for his work at the interface of chemistry and biology while a member of the UW faculty. This program fosters the exchange of students and scholars between select Indian institutions and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW).
The Khorana Scholars will have the opportunity to spend a period of 10-12 weeks working with UW-Madison faculty based on mutual scientific interests. They will become part of major research programs with international teams of scientists. At the end of the program, students will present their projects at a symposium. In exchange, the program also provides UW students with a transformative international experience by placing them in laboratories of Indian partner institutions for similarly enriching experiences. The Khorana Program is envisaged to provide encouragement to these young scholars to undertake R&D, transform research into societal benefits, and build a seamless scientific community between India and the United States.
