How to build your family tree
The urge for identifying our roots has been around for centuries. However, recently there has been a growing interest in the subject and one is keen to learn how to go about it systematically. Sensing the need, as a part of ongoing exhibition ‘Across Oceans and Flowing Silks from canton to Bombay 18th-20th Centuries’ & ‘No Parsi is an Island’ at National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai, a workshop was organised by Godrej Archives on ‘How to start a family tree?” on 18th January 2014 from 11 am to 1 pm.
Mr. Yazdi Tantra, Director of On-Lyne, conducted the workshop. He took the participants through his journey of setting up the website: ‘theparsifamily.com’, and elaborated how, through a website and a Face Book page for the Parsi Family Tree, he aims to connect members of the Parsi community, worldwide. The website serves as a platform to identify long lost relatives. He also shared that traditionally people used to proudly maintain family trees and interestingly demonstrated how ‘theparsifamily.com’ could be used effectively to create a family tree.
In this hour long engaging session, some of the participants also shared their experiences of how they went about building their family tree and tracing their roots.
The next Workshop will be on Saturday, 25th January, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
