Mobed Mehraban Firouzgary
Garothman Behesht Hojo ji
A great loss to our Global Zarathushti Community
Mobedaan Mobed Ervad Mehraban Firouzgary is regarded as one of the most humble, kind, empathetic, helpful, caring  and knowledgeable enlightened Head Priests of the Zarathushti Community, highly respected by all. He was the living bridge between the Zoroastrian diaspora in India, Iran, Germany and the USA. He had a kind word for everybody and loved our Community to the utmost, dedicating most of his life to Service.
Mobed Mehraban was born in Yazd on Yalda, the night of December 21st. This day is the birth of Meher Yazad. True to his name, Mobed Mehraban exuded true ‘MEHER’ – kindness and justice, shining the light of his knowledge with grace and generosity. He wrote that he believes that ‘Good and Evil are not absolute but relative and that Sins are to be judged only by Ahura Mazda. We ought to correct our thought, words and actions as needed to achieve a Happy and Harmonious Life.”
In addition to being the most senior Mobed in Iran he also was appointed as the Marriage Registrar for Zoroastrians of Tehran, by the Justice Ministry of the Iranian Government. This role gave him particular joy and he was devoted to the Community and found happiness in the happy lives of all the Youth around him and blessed all the couples.
He  trained several learned Mobeds and Mobedyaars and  clearly explained this role as Assistant to the Mobed. Mobed Firouzgary conducted classes and made audio recordings to help all learn the correct pronunciation of Avesta prayers. Everyone found great solace in the resonance of his voice during prayers. He was one of the guiding lights and the beacon of enlightenment of the BaHumata Webinar Series.
Mobed Firouzgary participated in the World Zoroastrian Congress in Iran and again in London 2005 at the Zoroastrian Trust Funds of Europe, and many more internation and national events including InterFaith meetings. Among his umpteen achievements and successes was that he participated in the Parzor UNESCO Filing of Navroz amongst UNESCO’s World Cultural Listings. He was awarded the title of Chehre Mandegar (Everlasting personality), by the Zarathoshty Anjuman of Tehran for his decades of meritorious Service.
In addition to serving the Community as a High Priest, Mobed Firouzgary was an Industrial Electrical and Electronics engineer trained originally in India having worked in JN Marshall and Co. in Bangalore, Madras, Bombay and then in Iran. He continued to serve even after he officially retired.  Although he was born and brought up in Iran, having lived and worked in various states of India, he could speak fluent Parsi Gujarati and mixed among the Parsis as a Parsi, receiving copious love wherever he resided. While in Bangalore, he was a very good friend of my Mother and her family. A thorough gentleman and a very helpful soul who treated everybody equally well.
Mobed Mehraban Firouzgary’s constant blessing to all was for an illumined mind and happy blissful life and he did his very best to contribute this to the lives of all.
His was truly a life dedicated to service, which he always fulfilled with his most enchanting smile along with his infectious humour and laughter.
He will remain with us forevery more through his works and translations especially of the Avesta and Moti Haptan Yasht wherein he explains that the minds of the members of a Governing Body such as an Anjuman, should come together like rivers coming together to create a more fertile land.  In his translation of the Ahmai Raescha and in his other works he gives happiness and hope to one and all for the Happiness and Peace in the World.
With my humble prayers and sincere condolences to Mobed Mehraban Firouzgary’s family, I wish him Garothman Behesht which he so deserves.
Karishma.
Dr. Koka Karishma.
