A new licensed Irani café and bar has opened in Business Bay, bringing with it generations of tradition and flavour.
Batliwala & Co., nestled in DoubleTree by Hilton – Business Bay, boasts views of the Burj Khalifa and strong Mumbai and Irani roots.
The concept was inspired by Zoroastrian settlers fleeing Iran and finding themselves making a life in Mumbai. Their journey produced a cuisine of gentle flavours, balanced spices and dishes shaped by cultural exchange. The next generations of Iranis that settled in Mumbai and surrounding areas saw their food blend effortlessly with local influences, creating dishes now reminiscent of the bustling city’s Irani cafés and Indo-Persian cuisine.
From Bun Maska with chai to Kheema Pao, Dhansak, Kolmi Patio, Mawa Cake, Lagan nu Custard and the famed Britannia-style Berry Pulao, each dish reflects flavours that characterise Parsi cooking shaped by centuries of adaptation and connection. Batliwala & Co.’s beverage programme includes cocktails inspired by Mumbai’s rhythm, blended with nostalgic Irani sodas.
Batliwala & Co.’s kitchen is led by chef Saurabh Kailash Modi, who has spent 25 years perfecting his craft in Melbourne, New York, London and India. Despite his achievements and experience, Batliwala & Co. is by far one of his more personal career moves.
The restaurant and bar is open daily from 5pm, and has a walk-in only policy.
