Petting Her Way into Readers’ Hearts: Ten-Year-Old Binaisha Dastoor Launches Her Fourth Book

What were you doing when you were ten years old?

Perhaps playing with friends, finishing homework, or daydreaming about the next school holiday. Ten-year-old Binaisha Dastoor does all that too—but she also writes books. Not one. Not two. Not even three. On 30th May 2026, this young literary star celebrated the publication of her fourth book, Pet My Back, a delightful and heart-warming story inspired by her love for animals and her belief that kindness can change the world.

A student of Class VI at Pawar Public School, Nanded City, Pune, Binaisha is one of those rare children who effortlessly balances talent with humility. Author, model, dancer, Guinness World Record holder, and above all, an imaginative storyteller, she is proving that age is no barrier when it comes to dreaming big.

Her writing journey began with Aurelya’s Magical Dream, followed by When Ruby Meets Herself and Roots and Wings. Each book showcased a different facet of her imagination, but Pet My Back is perhaps her most personal work yet.

A Little Girl, Two Dogs, and a Big Dream

Every story has a beginning, and this one starts in Akola.

Whenever Binaisha visits her grandmother, Daizy Dastoor, she is greeted by two very enthusiastic family members—Lucky and Sweetie, her grandmother’s beloved dogs.

The moment she speaks about them; her face lights up.

“I absolutely love spending time with them,” she says excitedly. “Sweetie licks me, eats food from my hand, and both dogs are so friendly. I enjoy their company so much. It’s always fun being around them.”

Like many animal lovers, Binaisha dreams of having a pet of her own. Unfortunately, apartment living makes that difficult.

“I’ve always wanted a pet, but my parents feel that keeping one in an apartment can be challenging. So I started imagining stories instead,” she says with a smile.

And that imagination soon found its way onto paper.

The Sudha Murty Connection

Every writer has someone who inspires them. For Binaisha, that inspiration came from celebrated author Sudha Murty.

“I have read the entire Gopi Diaries series,” she says proudly. “I loved it so much. After reading those books, I felt inspired to write a story about animals myself.”

What began as admiration soon became motivation. Armed with notebooks, ideas, and plenty of determination, Binaisha spent months developing her latest book.

The title itself is as charming as the story.

With a little help from her mother, Azmin Dastoor, she came up with the playful title Pet My Back—a clever twist on the familiar phrase pat my back. The title perfectly captures the book’s spirit: a celebration of pets, affection, and the joy animals bring into our lives.

Books, Not Screens

In an age dominated by gadgets and endless scrolling, Binaisha belongs to a shrinking tribe—children who genuinely love reading.

Ask her where her ideas come from, and the answer is immediate.

“I love reading because it makes me imagine. Those imaginations help me create stories and characters of my own.”

For her, books are more than entertainment.

“Books are my real magic and my true friends,” she says thoughtfully. “When you feel lonely, books—and the magic they carry—will always be there for you. Technology can never replace that.”

It is a refreshing perspective coming from someone who belongs to a generation often defined by screens.

More Than Just a Story About Pets

While Pet My Back is filled with warmth, humour, and lovable animal characters, Binaisha hopes readers will discover something deeper beneath the pages.

“The book is about love, innocence, care, and compassion,” she explains. “Animals give us pure, unconditional love. The world can sometimes be a cruel place, and this book reminds us that goodness still exists.”

She is particularly passionate about animal welfare.

“I don’t like seeing animals treated badly or birds kept in cages. How would we feel if we were locked up all the time?” she asks. “Animals deserve kindness and freedom too.”

Through her story, she hopes young readers, and adults will pause for a moment and reflect on how they treat the creatures with whom we share the planet.

“If readers finish the book feeling more caring towards animals, I’ll be very happy,” she says.

Records, Recognition, and Staying Grounded

As if writing four books before turning eleven wasn’t enough, Binaisha has also achieved what many adults can only dream of—earning two Guinness World Records in the Under-16 category.

Yet accolades have not changed her.

There is no trace of arrogance in her conversation. Instead, there is gratitude, discipline, and a quiet confidence.

Her personal mantra is simple:

“Be well prepared, give your complete best, and then leave the rest to God.”

Those words perhaps explain her success better than any award ever could.

Behind this remarkable young achiever stands a loving family that nurtures her creativity, encourages her ambitions, and celebrates every milestone.

A Young Voice with a Big Heart

In a world that often celebrates speed, competition, and instant gratification, Binaisha Dastoor’s story is a reminder of something gentler—the power of imagination, the joy of reading, and the importance of kindness.

With Pet My Back, she has given readers more than a book. She has offered a heartfelt reminder that compassion matters, that animals deserve our love, and that even the youngest voices can tell stories that touch hearts.

And if her first four books are any indication, this talented young author is only just getting started.
