Jange Variav is the historic episode when our ladies fought with the Muslims when the Parsi men were away. The women were so brave they mounted their horses, covered their heads with turbans and went to fight the Muslims. These were only women, young and old!!! They fought so bravely that the Muslims were defeated and were running away when one of the women’s turbans fell off and the Muslims knew it was women fighting them! Ashamed, they re-grouped and returned to fight. This time, all the ladies were killed. To this day, at Variav, near Surat , a jashan is held to remember these brave women who fought more bravely than men 🙂 “Jang” means battle. This battle has gone down in the Parsi history and commemorated every year as the Jange Variav!

Jange Variav Parabh jashan on Roz Ashishvang Mah Farvardeen Friday 12th September 2008 at 5 p.m. at Karani Agiary at Cusrow Baug followed by talk on “The spiritual status of prophet Zarathushtra in religious scriptures” by Dasturji Dr. Peshotan Hormuzdiar Mirza at 6.15 p.m.
