Introduction

N K Dhabhar Cancer Foundation (NKDCF) was started with the vision of carrying out various activities to support cancer patients. It was launched on 5th June 2011 in Mumbai, in memory of Mr. Nariman K Dhabhar, who was also a cancer patient, and father of Dr Boman Dhabhar.

It is a non-profit organization based in Mumbai.  At the foundation, we recognize the needs of cancer patients and strive to provide them with clinical and emotional support, thereby improving their quality of life.

We, at NKDC Foundation, provide financial, emotional and social support to people afflicted with cancer and instill confidence, hope and courage to the patients and their families.

MISSION : “Our endeavor is to promote and integrate cancer treatment for every patient whether curable, palliative or terminal, as we believe every person has a right to live with care and dignity, at any stage of cancer”.

The objectives of the foundation are:

• To provide monetary and medical assistance for cancer treatment
• To spread awareness on prevention and early detection of cancer
• To strengthen the existing cancer treatment facilities
• To provide palliative and terminal cancer care
• To promote research in cancer
• To interact with national, international, government, professional bodies and NGOs.

 

We conduct various patient benefit programs which include counselling, benefits of good nutrition, etc.

 

We conduct several Educational CMEs, Cancer Detection Camps and Survivor Support programs throughout. Some of our important projects are- Awareness & Detection Camps as we believe-“Earlier the Detection-Better the Treatment”,

 

Patient Assistance Program- where we help patients for their treatment and Wellness & Palliative Care for Cancer Patients- at OnCare.

 

 

CANCER DETECTION & AWARENESS

We have conducted Cancer Detection and Awareness camps all over Mumbai  ncluding Western & Central suburbs.    We have also conducted camps in Gujarat and Jharkhand and Ramnagar, Nainital.

Our main focus is on Breast Cancer detection. The screening is done using a one of a kind device called I Breast Exam (IBE). This is a completely safe, radiation free and non-invasive procedure and has been approved by the US FDA.

We have been to rural areas of Jharkhand and other states where good medical services are not available.

We have conducted a screening camp at Alibag at Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizer (RCF) Hospital for CISF, Corbett Park at Ramnagar, Nainital.

 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Foundation provides financial assistance to patients taking treatment for cancer, whether surgery, chemotherapy, radiation or any other medical treatment.

We have set up a state-of-art facility, OnCare –  Wellness & Palliative Care Centre, for cancer patients at K G Mittal Hospital, Charni Road, Mumbai.

 

Mission of OnCare

 “Support people living with cancer and their families in a Happy, Comforting and Home-Like Setting”.

Here patients are provided assistance to improve their Quality of Life and relieve suffering. We have formulated a professional plan of care to relieve suffering in all areas of a patient’s life involving physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists etc.

We also provide other allied services like spiritual and recreational facilities for patients.

Through this multidisciplinary approach, we seek to address physical, emotional, spiritual and social concerns that arise with advanced stage cancer.

Facilities Provided:

• Out Patient Department (OPD): The center provides for an OPD where different doctors will attend for special needs.
• Palliative care- A doctor specializing in Palliative care is available to address the medical needs of the patients. Basic palliative and supportive treatment is provided at the center. For additional medical needs patients will be referred to any medical center as per the patient’s wishes.
• Psychological assessment- psychiatrist/psychologist are available to assess the patient’s needs. Counseling is provided on individual as well as group therapy basis
• Occupational & Physio Therapy – qualified therapists are available for general & specific needs such as lymphedema management etc.

On 6^th June 2003 BND Onco Centre, a specialised centre for Cancer Treatment was started as a Day Care Centre by Senior Medical Oncologist- Dr Boman Dhabhar. BND Onco Centre is a centre for Medical Oncology treatment with a motto of – Care, Compassion and Concern.    Our Centre is located at:

Several patients, rich and poor alike are treated at BND Onco Centre with utmost care and empathy. Due to its convenient location many local and outstation patients come for their cancer treatment and consultation.

BND Onco Centre is affordable for many patients as the chemotherapy treatment and other charges are very low. This is made possible as we procure medicines directly through Companies that manufacture them. Several deserving and low income patients are also treated free of cost through the N K Dhabhar Cancer Foundation (NKDCF).

Due to BND Onco Centre’s affiliation with NKDCF, patients receive holistic care which helps them to cope with the disease, treatment and its side effects at  Wellness and Palliative Care Centre, which is a part of NKDCF. Patients receive free counselling for their emotional and psychological needs. This program serves as a support to assist them in making quick recovery and maintain positive attitude.  Some of the counsellors are survivors of cancer themselves and are able to better understand and guide the patients.

Good nutrition is important during the illness and its treatment.  Nutrition is an important part of cancer treatment. Having proper diet during and after chemotherapy can help the patient’s feel better. Patients receive free nutritional supplements to support their dietary requirements.

All patients are urged to attend various programmes which are being conducted at OnCare Wellness & Palliative Care Centre at K G Mittal Hospital.   These programmes help to improve the lives of people living with cancer by providing a positive, happy healing centre and support them on their cancer journey,
