Muktad-n Holiest Time of the Year by Erv. Zerkxis Bhandara

In this brief talk, Erv. Zerkxis Bhandara beautifully explains the essence of the Muktad period. It’s a time of profound spiritual significance and connection for the Zoroastrian community.

A Time for Reunion: Muktad is considered the most sacred time of the year, a special window when the physical and spiritual worlds draw closer. It’s an opportunity to connect with our Asho Ruvans and Farohars, who return to the physical world to be with their families.

Rest and Nourishment: The name “Muktad” itself can be interpreted as “liberation” or “repose,” signifying a time of rest for our dear departed. We offer them nourishment in the form of prayers, rituals, and consecrated foods and clothing, providing them with spiritual sustenance for their journey.

Spiritual Growth: Beyond honoring the deceased, Muktad is also a powerful time for our own spiritual development. By engaging in prayer and reflection, we strengthen our connection with our own Farohar, our inner guardian spirit, which helps us grow spiritually and align with the path of righteousness.

A Journey of Preparation: The spiritual preparations for Muktad are said to begin on the day of Charum (the 4th day after a person’s passing), marking the start of the soul’s journey to the spiritual realm. This highlights that the Muktad observances are part of a continuous process of spiritual care and connection.
