Dadi Pudumjee started puppetry as a hobby in Pune and a profession since 1976
Dadi has been conferred many awards for contribution to puppet theatre
Including one of the highest civilian awards in India: the Padma Shri national award.
Dadi Pudumjee and the Ishara puppet Theatre Trust have performed, presented papers, conducted workshops in many countries around the World.
The Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust
Is one of India’s major puppet theatre trusts, working with modern, traditional puppet companies and individuals. The aims of the trust are upgrading performance skills, creating opportunities of collaborations and putting puppet groups and puppeteers together both in India and abroad.
The trust creates new performances with its own company, breaking ground in puppetry both for the Indian and International puppet theatre world.
Dadi is also director and project head of the UNESCO EU project on HIV/AIDS and Substance abuse with SBT DELHI www.salaambaalaktrust.

The works directed by Dadi Pudumjee inspire youth and adults to embrace one’s inner imagination. They inspire one to be oneself with self-belief. Others evoke within oneself joy and values to go beyond limitations.
Dadi celebrates textiles from different regions of India, bringing to life the beauty in diversity of the Indian weavers, by using these in costumes for his puppets.
