United Kingdom saw the most significant new national record for June daily maximum temperature. a provisional high of 37.7°C was recorded at Lingwood, Strumpshaw Hill, surpassing the previous record of 35.6°C set at Southampton during the heatwave in June 1976.

On Friday 26th June 2026 those of us chilling indoors and watching BBC1 London News would have caught a snippet of ZTFE member Dr Malcolm N Mistry being interviewed about the UK / Europe heatwave, associated health risk, our preparedness and climate change.

Many of us may not be knowing Dr Malcolm N Mistry, who moved to the UK from Italy with his family few years ago. He is an Assistant Professor in Climate and Geospatial Modelling at The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Tavistock Square London (near SOAS) and also an external consultant on climate risk assessment at the World Bank. His research specialises in assessing the impacts of climate change not only on human health, but the wider planetary health.

Malcolm is currently part of research projects funded by the Wellcome Trust and the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).  He features regularly on UK and International media channels to express his scientific opinion on the risks of climate change on sectors such as health, agriculture, energy, transport and infrastructure. He also gives talks in schools to create more awareness of global warming and the need for a sustainable planet. In his spare time, Malcolm plays cricket and table tennis, and can be found cycling around Bushy Park near Kingston Upon Thames where he lives with his family.

Below please find his recent interactions with the UK and global media channels last week during the recent heatwave.
