The Principles upon which the Ba Humata endeavour is built are described in the image above.

Ba Humata presents a dialogue with Respected Scholar Priest Ervad Dr. Ramiyar Karanjia (PhD), Ervad Yazad Unwalla, Dr. Dolly Dastoor (PhD) and Mr. Noshir Dadrawala, recorded by Ashavan Yazdi Tantra. I express my profound gratitude to all of them for their effort and time and for highlighting the Zarathushti precepts including the importance of Knowledge, Philanthropy and how the Prayers guide Positive Action for the good of all starting with Good Thoughts (Ba Humata).

Ervad Dr. Ramiyar Parvez Karanjia, is a full fledged Zoroastrian priest from the Dadar Athornan Institute, where he is presently serving as the Principal. He holds a Doctorate in Avesta-Pahlavi languages from Mumbai University. He is a regular columnist with the Jame Jamshed Weekly. On his website www.ramiyarkaranjia.com he offers information on Zoroastrian religion, spirituality, Iranian history and Iranian languages.

In this conversation Ervad Ramiyar explains the importance of sharing Knowledge. He describes how the prayers help the development of knowledge while facilitating the transformation of Good Thoughts into Positive action. Among many important principles, Ervad Saheb explains innate Knowledge, acquired Knowledge and the importance of Prayer. He elucidates the importance of sharing in the Zarathushti Daena, and that knowledge, good thoughts, good actions and fellowship are all related. Ervad Ramiyar Karanjia most beautifully weaves a tapestry with knowledge from Yasna Ha 19, Yasna Ha 49.3, Yasna Ha 28.1 – from which emerges with unparalleled clarity a deep appreciation of multiple  Zarathushti precepts including leading Good Action with Good Thoughts (Ba Humata). The Neuro-cognitive elements are highlighted beautifully – an enthralling explanation. Then at the very end of this whole video he gives us a most enlightening explanation of the jewel of the beginning of the Gathas.

By profession Noshir H Dadrawala is CEO Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy. However, he also has an abiding interest in the Zoroastrian religion and frequently lectures and writes on religious topics. He is trustee of a number of religious and charitable trusts in Mumbai.

Noshir Dadrawala explains the concept of Philanthropy in a Zarathushti context and elucidates related concepts in this recording. He clarifies that Good Thoughts must translate into Good Action. Mr. Dadrawala clarifies the role of Good Thought and the Ahunavar in Creation …elucidating the 6 stages of creation being celebrated through the six Ghambars. The role of affirmations through the Ashem Vohu for all – including children is explained and is followed by a detailed explanation of Philanthropy and Universal Love. He explains that positive action such as education is the solution for negativity like ignorance and goes on to explain the role of Philanthropy in eradicating ignorance and disease, by starting with a good thought that translates into good action – followed by Love and leading to Ushta (Happiness) (Yasna Ha 43.1). A most motivating explanation of Prayer with Good Thought and Action together with Philanthropy.

Based in Montreal, Dolly Dastoor is a clinical psychologist specializing in the assessment of Dementia specially Alzheimer Disease. She has been actively involved in many organizations giving volunteer services in helping the elderly as Chair of the  Education Committee of the McGill Research Centre in the studies in Aging and has been the president of the Alzheimer Society of Montreal.  Active in the Zoroastrian community as  President of FEZANA,  chair of the scholarship committee and editor in chief of the FEZANA Journal. As  vice-chair of the Parliament of the World’s Religions active in Interfaith work  and advancing the empowerment of women through Zonta international at local, district and International levels and in the Montreal Council of women.

In this conversation, Dr. Dastoor explains what motivated her to dedicate herself to a life of service – her Inner Voice. She highlights the role of her family in guiding her to share her resources with others through Good Thoughts, Good Words and Good Deeds. Dolly explains the role of gratitude in her life and describes among many things her aim in life to empower people particularly young Zarathushtis to achieve their potential and realise their ambition. Her further explanation demonstrates a deep commitment to service in order to correct some of the injustices in Society and improve the lives of people. For this she describes among other things the value of acquiring knowledge and the importance of responsibility that comes with her role. A truly inspirational talk.

Ervad Yazad Cyrus Unwalla is a practising Ervad and a teacher in Religious Education, Politics and Economics. He has a degree in European Politics from King’s College London and is currently completing a PGCE in Religious Education at King’s College London. Ervad Yazad Unwalla comments on the importance of Prayers and knowledge for children in this video.

Ervad Yazad explains how he sees each child as an individual on a journey to achieve their full potential in his classroom. Knowledge is the most important gift one receives. He  gives us an understandinf of Learning being a lifelong process reflecting experiences, interests and passion – leading to self development. With great wisdom he explains that what one does with one’s knowledge is more important. Sharing knowledge is key. Prayers are knowledge in the purest form and are the foundation of our Faith. Ervad Yazad comments on the oral tradition and helps us see that Prayers keep us grounded and give us a sense of purpose. Children can then take action upon their prayers. The role of the brain is beautifully commented upon. Ervad Yazad gives us a logical progression of thought from Prayer to Action.

About Ba Humata:

  • We were following the meeting & when topic of mensuration came I would like to add my 2 cents.
If one knows prayers by heart no problem. Just cover your head with a scarf or Hankey and pray. If not just doing one’s kusti as well as Ahunavar & Ashen should suffice ( whatever one can pray orally.
