“We Started Our Journey Selling Food on the Footpath Out of Necessity” – Tanaz Madan Bhathena

Tanaz and Percy Bhathena’s inspiring journey with “Mayo Delights and More” began on the footpath out of sheer necessity. Faced with the looming threat of bankruptcy, Tanaz sold her jewelry to survive, and they started their open food stall in Pune in 2019, serving delicious chicken mayo rolls and sandwiches. The couple worked tirelessly, side by side, through long, exhausting days, drawing strength from their loyal customers and the camaraderie of fellow street vendors. Even as they cared for their autistic child and Tanaz’s elderly mother, their unwavering determination carried them forward, eventually earning a devoted following from customers, including Ruby Hall staff who found comfort in their home-style cooking.

The COVID-19 lockdown forced them to close their street stall, plunging them into financial uncertainty. However, with help from Ervad Kaipashin Raimalwala and Farzana Pardiwalla, they managed to pivot and started a home-based food business, using a WhatsApp group to keep in touch with customers. Orders quickly poured in, and Tanaz’s culinary magic—from Parsi dhansak to continental delicacies—captivated food lovers across the city. Despite overwhelming demand, they remained humble, continuously honing their skills and embracing every challenge with grace. Tanaz is a culinary wizard, conjuring up a tantalizing array of dishes that leave taste buds dancing with delight. From lip-smacking farchas to succulent chicken lollipops, from the spicy kick of kimchi to the comforting embrace of authentic Parsi dhansak, her creations span continents and cultures. But Tanaz’s culinary prowess doesn’t stop there. Her curry masalas and bhakras have become globetrotters, finding homes in kitchens around the world. And her Chinese delicacies, continental delights, Mughlai feasts, and barbeque extravaganzas..are just WOW

Their journey reached a significant milestone when, with support from mentors like Mr. Dinshaw Tamboly, who offered an interest-free loan, they transitioned from footpath to storefront, opening their shop in Wanavrie, Pune. “Mayo Delights and More” now stands as a testament to their resilience and dedication. Tanaz Madan Bhathena quotes; “This journey has been so tough. My husband, Percy and I did everything ourselves—cutting, cooking, packing—without any help. But no matter how hard it gets, I won’t give up. I’ll keep going, serving food, and bringing smiles to people’s faces.” Through every hardship, Tanaz and Percy’s story reminds us that while tough times don’t last, tough people do. Their determination, faith, and relentless pursuit of excellence serve as an inspiration to many, proving that with grit and passion, dreams can indeed come true.

Food industry is the best anywhere in Indian cities. Good luck. I wonder if you do home delivery in Pune or arrange it with any reasonably priced food carrier as, post-Covid we are all accustomed to that. We come to Pune off and on and would love to order if there is home delivery option.
