WZCC Spotlight – Dolly Dastoor

 

Dolly Dastoor was born in Mumbai, India and moved to Montreal, Canada in 1973 after spending ten years in Nigeria at the University of Ibadan. There, she was a Senior Research Fellow in Psychiatry and the project coordinator for the World Health Organization’s schizophrenia project.

 

Dolly earned her PhD later in life and has made significant contributions to dementia care. She developed a now-standard assessment tool, introduced innovative patient care designs, and established support groups for Montrealers living with Alzheimer’s. She retired from her positions as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Co-Director of the Program for Dementia with Psychiatric Co-Morbidity at the Moe Levin Centre, and member of the McGill Centre for Studies in Aging.

 

Dolly has served as the President of the Zoroastrian Association of Quebec and the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America (FEZANA). She chairs FEZANA’s Academic Scholarship Committee and has been the Editor-in-Chief of the FEZANA JOURNAL since Spring 2006. Additionally, she chaired the North American Zoroastrian Congress in 1982 and co-chaired the 7th World Zoroastrian Congress in 2000.  Dolly has been a Trustee of the Board of the Parliament of the World’s Religions, a member of the Women’s Task Force, Vice President of Auberge Madeleine (a shelter for homeless women), and President of the Montreal Council of Women (2021-22).
