Happy Cyrus Day !

HAPPY CYRUS DAY

October 29th has been designated as the international day of Cyrus the Great, king of Persia, who declared the first charter of human rights in the world, also known as the Cyrus Cylinder. In 539 BC, Persian troops entered the city of Babylon, without encountering any resistance. On October 29th, Cyrus himself entered the city, assuming the titles of “King of Babylon, King of Sumer and Akkad, King of the four corners of the world. The Cyrus Cylinder was placed under the walls of Babylon as a foundation deposit, following a long Babylonian tradition.

Cyrus the Great proclaimed more than 2500 years ago: Today, I announce that everyone is free to choose a religion. People are free to live in all regions and take up a job provided that they never violate other’s rights. Cyrus the Great declared himself not a conqueror, but a liberator and the rightful successor to the crown.

SHREEJI PAK IRANSHAH UNDER THREAT

October 21, 2010

The Udvada Samast Anjuman would like to inform community members all over the world, about the possible threat that our sacred Shreeji Pak Iranshah is presently facing.

The tenure of a huge plot of land, around 200 acres, situated directly behind our most sacred Shreeji Pak Iranshah Atashbehram is in the process of being changed from Agriculture to Non-Agriculture, after which it is proposed to set up an Industrial Estate / redevelopment of residential colonies. If this change of tenure is permitted and an Industrial Estate is allowed to be established in the vicinity of Shreeji Pak Iranshah Atashbehram it will completely destroy the sanctity of our holiest place of worship.

It is hoped that members of the community, irrespective of their ideologies will unite for the common cause of protecting our venerated Shreeji Pak Iranshah.

May Shreeji Pak Iranshah continue to reign in splendour and continue to shower His blessings on all in our community for eternity.

For & on behalf of
Udvada Samast Anjuman,
Dasturji Khurshed K. Dastoor

How Ratan Tata built an empire

The amazing story of how Ratan Tata built an empire – by Meenakshi Radhakrishnan-Swami, Rashmi K Pratap, Mohammed Ekramul Haque and Ajita Shashidhar

In the past decade — the decade that marked the glorious years of Ratan Tata — nearly $18 billion was shelled out to acquire 22 companies worldwide, including Tetley Tea and Corus Steel in the UK, New York’s Pierre Hotel and Jaguar Land Rover.

The Tata Group includes India’s largest private steel company, the biggest auto manufacturer and the largest IT outsourcing firm.

“Ratan Tata outperformed JRD. He toppled people as strong as Russi Mody, thought out of the box and came up with path-breaking concepts like the Nano,” says Bala V Balachandran, faculty member at Kellogg School of Management, and dean of the Great Lakes Institute of Management.
