Parsis Award Young Entrepreneurs

How Parsis Promote New Businesses.

At a glittering Awards Night held on Sunday 20th December, 18 Parsi about to become businessmen were felicitated and of which, six were awarded with cash prizes. The cash would come handy for them. The World Zarathushti Chamber of Commerce – India whose Mission is to encourage Entrepreneurship recently conducted its first all-India Business Plan Contest. Applications were invited from Parsi / Irani who wished to start to start their own business. After an initial response of 40 entries, training and coaching in writing a business plan, and presenting it to group of investors was provided. Many went through it for the first time in their life and so had lot to gain from it. 18 finalists were shortlisted, who presented their Business Plans to a group of Investors. Nearly 25 investors, many of whom are experienced professionals and businessmen, evinced keen interest to invest in the several proposed ventures. Several Parsi professionals in areas of HR, Legal, Finance offered free services for web hosting, company registration and finding right people. Cyrus Bagwadia, ex-M.D. and CEO of Essel Propack who conceived and led the program said “The Contest intended to encourage those with business ideas to develop their Business Plans in a professional way and be able to interact directly with Investors for funding of their projects. There are angel group funds in India, but none offers the kind of coaching and mentoring that we did. Also, this is the first one in India which is promoted and run by a community. The whole program took 6 months but the results and outcome are terrific.” All youngsters were unanimous to say that it was a great learning experience and are much more confident now than ever before. Parsis are known to be entrepreneurial and have been worried about the recent trend in drop of new companies being registered by community members. So they came up with this very innovative method. Dr. J. J. Irani was the Chief Guest for the function and he gave away the prizes.

Religions for Peace

ECRL – Religions for peace – Interreligious council launched in Belgium.htm

Contributed by Jehangir Sarosh.

Dear Fellow Zarathushties

Two days ago I returned from Brussels, full of joy. In 2007, My colleague and I went and met each religious leader personally to ask them to meet and consider forming a council so that we can change the world TOGETHER.

Working together for the common good is seen as the most important way for the well being of Ahura Mazda’s creation, it is for this reason the King sent his representative, Princes Mathilde,  the Vice-president was present herself and the Prime minister sent his representative, and Mr Jos Chambert was there from the European Union.

A month before that, we inaugurated the Interreligious Council of Albania (IRCA) and the President of Albania was himself present there and officially inaugurated the IRCA.

I write this in the hope that it will convince my Zarathushti sisters and brothers the importance of working together and  to be involved in the building of an international Network of Zarathushties.

Dear  Friends,

Shernaz’s draft proposal for the event is  attached,  Draft Proposal for Exhibition on the Parsi Zoroastrians

I urge you to please read it  and should you have any comments or inputs, she will be delighted to hear from you.  Dr.Cama states, “it is a huge endeavor and I request the support of every member of our community across the Globe”.  “The more ideas we gather, the better it is and finally it is meant as a participative exposition on, by and for the community”.

I am sure many of you will have some important comments & inputs to offer towards making the event a big success.

I shall also be greatly obliged if you’d pass this request  on to others whom you know who would be in a position to help.

Thanking you,

Zoroastrian on the ECRL

Zoroastrian on the ECRL it is now official

Dear Colleagues
I returned from Lille ,  France where we had the E European Council of Religious Leaders (ECRL) Council meeting.

Delighted to inform you that the Zarathushties now have a  full  membership seat on the council in their own right, (previously I was there ex officio) Not only was I elected to the council but on to the Executive Committee.

This in a way was a special honour to us for as you know there are six groups , Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, Jews, Muslims and the “Other”

The Other Group has members from the world faiths new to Europe comprising Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs and Zoroastrians.

The Executive is made up of one member from each of the  six groups.

The Buddhists, Hindus, and Sikhs nominated myself to represent them on the Ex. Com. This shows the great trust they have in our community, we can all be proud of the legacy of our forefathers.

with love and peace
