Celebrate Earth Week – Essay Contest

“Hearing Each Other, Healing the Earth.”

The InterFaith Conference’s
Fifth Snowdon Lecture
With
Dr. Richard Cizik
Help Us Celebrate Earth Week!

Dr. Richard Cizik is a well known Evangelical Christian leader and has been named as one of the New York Times “One Hundred Most Influential Thinkers and Scientists”.  Few have done as much as Dr. Cizik to re-shape the thinking of 43-million evangelicals around earth care.

Dr. Cizik’s lecture will surely help create new dialogues to build bridges among people of diverse faiths and spiritualities, as well as people of no faith, by focusing on that upon which we all depend-the distressed earth.  Through this event Richard Cizik hopes to encourage all people into mindful reflection, and then to move from reflection into urgent action on behalf of the environment.

The IFC is delighted to announce an essay contest for this year’s Snowdon Lecture, offered in conjunction with the Washington Post. A $500 scholarship will be given to the best 3 to 5 page critical essay written by a student at the high school, undergrad and graduate levels.  Students who wish to participate in the contest must attend the lecture and pick up an essay entrance form at the event.  The last day to turn in a 3 to 5 page critical essay is May 22, 2009, and the scholarships winners will be announced in June.  Submissions should be mailed to The InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington, The Gate House 100 Allison St. NW, Washington, DC 20011.

A simplified version of our calendar to use as a ready reckoner for kids and adults alike!!

Our Sacred Calendar

What is the difference between our calendar  and the  Gregorian calendar we use every day?  We have 30 days for each of the twelve months of the year.  Each day is named after some divine power or after  some  aspect of nature.

  1. What is the name of the first day of the month?  Ohrmazd which is a later form of Ahura Mazda, Lord of  Life  & Wisdom, or Wise Lord of  Wisdom. Both  Mazda  & Medha have the same root. Ahura Mazda is within  us and  outside us, in every particle of existence. Read more
