Please Ponder

PLEASE PONDER 2

All we  hear read & see

Racism discrimination

As well Bigotry

Innocent bloodied children maimed,

Blinded without arms or legs

Hurrying & scurrying

From us pleading for  help

They sincerely beg

Hungry, shivering in the cold

And nowhere to go

But mighty river of hatred

War violence  continues to flow

Mother’s running helter

And skelter with

Babes in arms

Making sure these innocent

Cuties come to no harm

What does humans get by

Inflicting such excruciating pain?

I sincerely wonder if there’s

Anything to gain?

The Zoroastrian Community

Is silently watching

So please smarten up

Bring about Unity.

Let me end by stating:

As it’s said:

“A Mistake that makes one

Humble

Is much better than an

Achievement that makes

One Arrogant”

“The world is a dangerous place not because of those who do evil but because of those who look on & do nothing” —- Albert Einstein

Amyra Dastur plans Parsi treat for Jackie Chan

Apart from Vin Diesel, who visits Mumbai next week to promote ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’ that also stars Deepika Padukone, another international celeb will be in town at the same time. Jackie Chan is slated to be in the city from January 13 for the promotions of Kung Fu Yoga, which releases on January 28.

His co-star Amyra Dastur has lined up a special treat for him — a spread of Parsi cuisine. The actor-filmmaker is a non-vegetarian, so Amyra is hoping that he enjoys the flavours.

When the unit was shooting in China, Jackie made sure that Amyra and co-stars Sonu Sood and Disha Patani were comfortable. “We loved his hospitality,” says Amyra. Now that he is visiting India, she hopes to reciprocrate the gesture.

Amyra has chalked out a menu with her mum, Gulzar. “Since I am a vegetarian, there will also be some greens on the menu, I hope he enjoys the veg fare too,” says Amyra.

Well-known Parsi dishes like Akhuri, Chicken Farcha, Dhansak and Patra Ni Machhi will also be served. “We used to talk a lot about different kinds of cuisine (while shooting). Now, it’s time for him to savour Parsi stuff.”

Chan is familiar with Indian cuisine since the film was also shot in Jodhpur last April. “I hope he is able to handle the spices,” says Amyra, who was earlier seen in Mr X (2015) opposite Emraan Hashmi.

Parsi teacher turns her life into a book of funny, quirky stories

Parsi teacher Khushnoor Asif turns her frowns upside down by documenting instances in her 40-year-old journey as a Parsi, in her latest book called Mocktales, set to release on January 9

When Khushnoor Asif finally got a chance to receive an award from her principal at the age of 6, the crowd had already dispersed and the photographer’s camera had died just as she reached the stage. She wept that day, but in that moment, an idea was born.

Since then till now, Asif has been turning her frowns upside down by documenting instances in her 40-year-old journey as a Parsi, in her latest book called Mocktales, set to release on January 9.

Celebrating community
“There’s something about the Parsi culture and people. We really love to laugh at ourselves. This book celebrates that. But I think, after the book launch, I may have lost all my relatives,” laughs Asif, who has taken real moments and experiences from her own life and turned them into short stories.

“I have looked at things from a very Parsi perspective. Even the non-Parsi characters have been turned into Parsis, just so I can give an essence of how it would have been like had everyone been a Parsi, a kind of satire,” added the teacher. Talking about the book’s title, Asif says, “I love drinks and I love mocking as well. I thought it would be a perfect combination.”

The book, instead of an index, has a drinks menu, with the page numbers.

Served real
Asif has compiled several short stories on the community through a not-so-fictional colony called Jehangir Baug. “Jehangir Baug is a small, well-planned colony in the heart of the city. Its members make up an interesting study in human nature and the Parsi culture. They live together, feast together, occasionally sulk with each other, and even fight. As is normal in large families, they gossip about each other and pray at the same fire temple, asking for forgiveness,” she says.

Mehreen Aunty, a character in the book, is one such example. “Her English is legendary in Jehangir Baug. When asked during the annual dinner if she was ‘veg or a non-veg’, she would reply in English: ‘Other days I am non vegetables, but on Thursday I am vegetables only.’” narrates Asif.

Looking for details of Dr. Rustom Framjee Divecha

Having found your directory on line, I wondered if you could help me trace the birthplace of my grandfather.
I believe that he was born in India and trained as a medical practitioner in India and that he was interested in the Zoroastrian religion.
He subsequently travelled to England in 1919 and practiced medicine there as a general practitioner.
His name is Dr. Rustom Framjee Divecha, date.of.birth. 26/11/1894 date of death 21/10/1980. His father Dr. Framjee Divecha was also a medical practitioner and practiced in India.
I have traced my grandfather through the British Medical Register and believe that he also registered as a medical practitioner in India in 1925 at this address …Mody Nimar, Parel, Bombay.
I would dearly like to find where he was born and where, in India, he trained as a doctor. I believe he may have come from Mumbai.
I would be very grateful for any advice you can give me. If you feel that your directory may help then I will register to access it. Also if you could let me know if there is a register of medical practitioners in India that I can access.
Thank you in anticipation.

I am a trustee of Ahura Support and I seek assistance on behalf of our nonprofit. Ahura support is an NGO catering to the needs of families of children/adults with developmental disorders, who are predominantly mentally challenged. We have started a day care vocational center and now a residential center for the differently abled adults who require 24/7 care in varying degrees. Our need for specific funding is related to our vocational center, residential center, and our monthly activities.  We are legally compliant and at present need assistance in procuring quality beds and home appliances for our residential center located at Masina Hospital Campus Byculla.

ODE TO MY DEAREST Brother HOMI

May your sweet selfless soul

Rest in eternal peace

Free of

Of sickness & disease

In Ahura,Mazda’s care

Surrounded by His

Maiden’s fair

You were articulate

Smart as well full of wit

Wherever you went

With your Black book of jokes

You were a hit

Socially you were

The Glue that bound

Friends together

Kept them stitches with

Fun & laughter

You led your life

The Zoroastrian way

Selflessly silently

Who need help

Came your way!

You did not differentiate
Between a pauper or prince

But did it because you

Believed in Good Thoughts

Good Words Good Deeds.

Now that you are gone

All the loving memories
Will never be forgotten

But will forever linger on!

May your sweet soul rest in eternal peace

Your loving sister
